SOUTHERNMOUNTAINLIGHT is a photographic and written document of journeys through southern Africa, seeking to retain the historical and geographical context of the land, to embed in the photographic narratives a sense of place, and to focus as much to the commonplace as the beautiful.

BRUCE PAXTON was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and holds a PhD in ecology from the University of Cape Town. His photography spans a lifetime and broadly encompasses nature, documentary, travel and landscape. Having served an apprenticeship in film photography, this anthology showcases eight years of digital image-making. His writing and photographs have appeared in Africa Geographic and Go! magazines. When not chasing horizons, he works as a freshwater ecologist in Cape Town.
